- Viewing only. If you need to edit a document and send it back, this will not do it.
- It opens Word, Excel and PowerPoint files as well as the Hancom formats. For a PC that only receives documents, this alone is enough.
What it is
A free, view-only program from Hancom. It opens Korean HWP, Hancell and Hanshow documents, and Word, Excel and PowerPoint files as well. It cannot edit or save. It exists for the case where you have to open a .hwp file from a government office or a school but have no reason to buy Hancom Office.
When to pick this
Enough if you only ever read .hwp documents. To edit and return them you need Hancom Office or another suite that writes .hwp. If you also have documents to create, LibreOffice or ONLYOFFICE are the free options.
Details
HWP files look the way they were written
Made by Hancom themselves, so formatting, tables and equations appear as the author laid them out. Opening .hwp in other programs can shift line breaks and break table layouts; that does not happen here.
No editing, no saving
Strictly a viewer. If you need to change something and send it back, this will not do it. Printing and copying text do work.
It opens Microsoft Office files too
Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents are supported. On a PC that only receives documents, this single program settles the matter without installing an office suite.
