What it is
A PDF program from ESTsoft. Unlike view-only free readers it can edit text inside a document, merge and split pages, and convert to Word or Excel — all free, but for personal use only. Companies and public institutions need a paid licence.
When to pick this
For editing or converting PDFs at home. On a work PC, buy a licence — or use LibreOffice’s PDF export, which is free everywhere.

Scope of the free licence
Free only for personal use at home. Installing it on a work PC is a licence violation, and this trips people up regularly.

After a reformat
Untick the bundled items in the installer
Other ESTsoft products such as ALYac and ALToolbar come pre-ticked. If you only want ALPDF, untick them.
On a work PC, licensing
Free for individuals; companies and public bodies need a licence. For just reading PDFs at work, SumatraPDF or Acrobat Reader are the safe choices.
