Redistribution policy
This is the part that sites dealing in software most easily get wrong. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, written out.
We do not store installer files
No program’s installer sits on an AfterFormat server. The script we build connects from your PC directly to each vendor’s official server. That leaves no room for a file to be swapped along the way.
Redistribution terms are recorded per program
Free does not mean free to redistribute. For each program we record how far redistribution is permitted, what that judgement is based on, and when it was checked.
Unverified programs are not listed
A program whose redistribution terms we could not confirm does not go on the list. When it is ambiguous, we leave it out.
We never serve old versions
We never provide old installers. Doing so means distributing what a vendor deliberately withdrew, and spreading files with known security problems. If you need a specific older build, get it from the vendor’s own archive.
No bundled or affiliate software
The script contains only the programs you selected. Bundling is how much of this category makes money; we do not do it.
Redistribution status, per program
Every program page shows one of the five statuses below.
- Redistribution allowed
- The vendor explicitly permits redistribution.
- Open source licence
- Redistribution is possible within the licence terms.
- Official source link only
- The file must be downloaded from the vendor’s servers.
- Permission required
- We do not mirror it until permission is granted.
- Not confirmed
- Terms could not be verified, so it is not listed.
Trademarks and copyright
Program names, trademarks and icons on this site belong to the companies that made them. AfterFormat is not affiliated with any of them and is not an official distributor for any vendor.
If you find something wrong
If we have judged a program’s redistribution terms incorrectly, tell us at hello@afterformat.com. We will check and either correct it or remove the entry.
