What it is

The standard open-source tool for screen recording and live streaming. It composes several sources — screen, webcam, microphone, images — into scenes and either records them to a file or sends them to YouTube, Twitch or another service. Free for personal and commercial use with no watermark and no time limit.

When to pick this

For game recording, lecture capture or live streaming. For a quick clip with no setup, the Windows Game Bar (Win+G) is enough.

Details

Scenes and sources

Build layouts from screen captures, a webcam, images and text, and switch between them mid-recording.

Recording and streaming

Save to a local file or stream to YouTube, Twitch and others. Both can run at the same time.

Load on the PC

Recording while gaming uses CPU and GPU. Hardware encoding (NVENC, QuickSync) reduces the impact considerably.
