What it is
A light text editor made in Japan. Its defining feature is automatically detecting Japanese character encodings — Shift_JIS, EUC-JP and JIS — so files that appear as garbled text elsewhere often open correctly here. Zlib-licensed open source.
When to pick this
If you handle files with Japanese character encodings. For encoding problems in a Korean environment, Notepad++ is enough.

Japanese encodings
Detects Shift_JIS, EUC-JP, JIS and UTF-8 automatically, and can save in a different encoding.

The program is small and opens instantly, and it copes with large log files being scrolled through.

Back up the settings files
Settings are in sakura.ini and the keyword and type files beside it, in the install folder or %APPDATA%\sakura. Copy them before formatting.
