What it is
A video meeting program. It became the default tool for online classes and remote work during the pandemic and remains common for lectures and external meetings. Anyone with an invite link can join without an account.
When to pick this
For meetings with people outside your organisation, or for online classes. If your workplace runs on Microsoft accounts, Teams fits; among friends, Discord does.

The 40-minute free limit
Meetings with three or more people cut off at 40 minutes. You can rejoin, but you should know before a class or a call. One-to-one calls have no limit.
Joining without installing
With an invite link you can join from a browser, though some features such as screen sharing want the app.
Virtual backgrounds
Hide your room without a green screen. In dim lighting the edges look rough.
After a reformat
Account sign-in and you are done
Scheduled meetings and settings are on the account. Virtual background images and audio/video device choices are local; set them again.
Recordings
Local recordings are in Documents\Zoom. Move them before formatting. Cloud recordings stay on the account.
