What it is
Makes your Google Drive files appear in Windows Explorer as a drive. Rather than downloading everything, it shows the listing and fetches files when you open them, which keeps disk use low. Free storage is 15GB per account, shared with Gmail and Google Photos.
When to pick this
If you live in a Google account and open documents across devices. If you prefer keeping one folder in sync, Dropbox is simpler.

It appears as a drive under This PC — no separate window. Double-click a document, edit and save, and the change is uploaded.
Streaming or mirroring
Choose between fetching files on demand and keeping a full local copy. On a laptop with a small drive, the former is better.
How the 15GB is counted
The 15GB covers Drive, Gmail attachments and Google Photos together, so an account with a large mailbox has less usable space than it looks.
After a reformat
Sign in and choose the mode
Choose again between streaming files (download on demand) and mirroring (keep everything on the PC). Mirroring re-downloads everything, so allow for the space and time.
Folders you were backing up
If Desktop and Documents were backed up to Google Drive, set that up again on the new PC; otherwise new folders are uploaded separately.
