What it is
Keeps a chosen folder in sync with the cloud. Put a file in that folder and the same file appears on your other devices — a simple model that is easy to reason about. Free storage is 2GB, which is small.
When to pick this
If you want one folder kept identical across devices with no complexity. If you need capacity, Google Drive’s 15GB goes further.
Details
Folder sync
Putting something in the Dropbox folder is the backup. There is no separate upload step.
Version history
Restore a file to an earlier state from the last 30 days after a bad edit or deletion.
Free storage
2GB. Not enough for photos or video, but workable for documents.
After a reformat
Sign in and it downloads again
The whole Dropbox folder syncs down again. If you used selective sync to keep only some folders, set it up again on the new install. Large accounts take a while, so start it and get on with something else.
