What it is
An open-source archiver. It has no ads, no bundled software and free use on personal and commercial computers; redistribution remains subject to its licences. Its own 7z format compresses smaller than zip, and it opens essentially every archive format in common use.
When to pick this
When you want zero ads and zero licence ambiguity, especially on a company PC. If you often open archives created on older Korean systems, Bandizip handles the filenames better.
Details
Compression ratio
The 7z format is typically 20–30% smaller than zip for the same content, at the cost of slower compression.
No ads, no bundles
The installer contains nothing but the program. There is no checkbox to watch for.
Plain interface
The window looks dated and Korean filename repair is weaker than Bandizip’s. Right-click integration covers most daily use.
After a reformat
Only the file associations
7-Zip File Manager → Tools → Options → System tab, pick the formats. Skip this and archives keep opening in Windows Explorer.
There are no settings to speak of
Nothing to restore. No account, no licence.
